A fire has burnt the former Mount Molloy butcher shop to the ground.

A fire in the heart of Mount Molloy has burnt the former butcher shop to the ground this evening.

At least one fire truck was on the scene of the converted shop before 6pm, but the home was well and truly alight by then, with a passerby telling Newsport he saw the blaze burning at 5.15pm.

The residence is across the road from the post office and petrol station on the Mulligan Highway just down the road from the National Hotel.

The group of onlookers gathered around could do little to stop the blaze, with the building fully razed.
