The Mossman Show Ball is being revived after decades in hiatus.

Show Society president Matty Hatfield said the Mossman hall would be fully decorated for the show cabaret to be held on Saturday, June 21, and the event would also include a catered three-course meal.

“Back in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s the ball was all about the Show Queens but this year the focus has shifted to introducing the Show’s Young Rural Ambassadors to their community,” Mr Hatfield said.

“We hope the Mossman Show Ball will bring together the community for a fun night of dancing.”

The event has secured a $10,000 Douglas Shire Council grant to help pay for the decorations and catering.

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the council was pleased to help out.

“The past couple of years have been challenging following the closure of the Mossman Mill and the recovery process following the Cyclone Jasper flooding event,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“We hope the Show Ball can lift morale, bring a sense of connection, and most of all provide a fun event people can look forward to right here in Mossman.”

Tickets for the Mossman Show Ball, to be held at Mossman Shire Hall on Saturday, June 21, are on sale at Ives Mensland, 31 Front Street, Mossman.
