A 15-year-old Atherton boy who allegedly tried to run away from police while being arrested has been charged with 20 offences reportedly committed in the Tablelands region from December to April.

At about 4am on March 1, a Toyota Rav 4 and other items were stolen from a home in Atherton, with the car found the next day near an Atherton golf course.

On the evening of Monday, April 28, three separate houses were broken into in the Kuranda area, with a number of items stolen.

At about 9.30am on Tuesday, April 29, the boy was arrested in Atherton.

While being escorted to a police car, he allegedly tried to flee officers on foot.

They caught him a short time later and he was taken to Mareeba watchhouse, where he was charged with 20 offences including entering a home and committing an indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, breaching bail, stealing and obstructing police.

Bail was refused and he was due to appear at the Cairns Children’s Court today (May 9).
