Suspicious house fire, Mareeba
Police are investigating a suspicious house fire which occurred in Mareeba, May 10.
It will be alleged that on the morning of May 10, emergency services were called to attend a house fire at a Couper Street, Mareeba, address.
Emergency Services were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Police located the sole occupant of the residence who had sustained minor injuries whilst escaping the home.
Investigations are ongoing and police urge anyone with information to please come forward.
11 Driving, drug and property offences, Mareeba
Police have charged a 23-year-old Mareeba man with 11 offences and it will be alleged that between May 2 and May 10, he was involved in several offences committed across the Mareeba area.
On one occasion it will be alleged at 3.12pm on May 2, a stolen vehicle was travelling along the Kennedy Highway towards Kuranda following a successful tyre deflation deployment a short time earlier.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was sighted driving along the Kennedy Highway overtaking over double lines at excessive speeds over 40+km/h and into oncoming traffic whilst the tyres of the stolen vehicle were deflating.
The driver stopped the stolen vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Police later identified the 23-year-old Mareeba man as the alleged driver.
On May 10, police were conducting patrols of the Mareeba area when they located the man on Byrnes Street.
Police notified the man he was under arrest to which he attempted to escape however, was located a short time later hiding.
The man was taken into custody and charged with 11 offences including three counts of possessing utensils, two counts each of possessing dangerous drugs and receiving tainted property and one count each of driving without a licence, obstruct police officer, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The man is next due to appear at the Mareeba Magistrates Court June 6.
Armed robbery charge, Mareeba
Police have arrested a 26-year-old Mareeba man with multiple charges in Mareeba.
Police will allege the man committed multiple offences from December 13, 2022 to January 2, 2025.
On one occasion, it will be alleged, on December 13, 2022, a 26-year-old Mareeba man armed with a bat and a 44-year-old White Rock man armed with a clublike weapon attended a Leafgold Weir Road, Dimbulah, address.
Whilst at the address, it will be alleged the pair approached and sprayed a 53-year-old man with an unknown substance in his eyes before pulling him out of the tractor he was in and assaulting him with weapons.
The 26-year-old and 44-year-old men then stole the mans phone and left.
On May 8, the 26-year-old man was arrested and transported to Mareeba watchhouse where he was charged with one count each of armed robbery and stealing.
The 44-year-old White Rock man was previously located and charged by police with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and stealing.
The 26-year-old man is next due to appear in the Normanton Magistrates Court June 9.
