Special place in Amy Sheppard's heart for Port Douglas
Savannah Sounds

Amy Sheppard has been touring a lot lately with her band of siblings, but she says she has always been able to find time for Port Douglas.
Sheppard, the band, which has done more than 60 gigs across the US and Europe in recent days, last visited Far North Queensland for the 2024 Savannah on the Reef.
“I love coming up there, it’s like a holiday to me,” Amy told Newsport last week.
“The weather’s always great, the people are always great.”
The band, which has recently been sharing its time between Brisbane and Nashville, US, has been working hard to cement its standing as an elite global act with an extensive touring schedule.
Its fourth studio album, Zora, was released last June, and the collection of siblings - also featuring brother George and sister Emma, as well as more non-family back-up band members - has also been writing more songs in Nashville.
And what can the Savannah Sounds audience expect from Sheppard when they play this Saturday as part of this new Port Douglas Carnivale music festival?
“Good times, we love to have the audience sing along,” Amy says.
She says the band has been touring so much globally that it has not had a chance yet to bring its latest songs home, and she is looking forward to playing the new works, along with old favourites such as Geronimo.
Savannah Sounds is on from Friday, May 23, to Sunday, May 25, with Sheppard on from 7.40pm Saturday night.
