A Cooktown man has been charged with multiple offences after a white MG was rented in North Cairns and then disappeared.

The MG3 was due to be returned to the car-hire business on Wednesday, May 28, with police recovering the car a week later from a Cooktown home on Wednesday, June 4.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man and charged him with multiple offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and drug possession.

Police allege the man has committed a range of offences between May 3 and June 4 in the Cooktown and Manunda areas.

He is due to appear at Cooktown Magistrates Court on Wednesday, July 2.
