One young Port Douglas artist is chasing his dream of becoming a filmmaker, one portrait at a time.

Hugo, 10, has been drawing customers at local Macrossan and Grant Street cafes for $1 each, with the aim of saving enough money to embark on his first solo film project.

“I’m saving up for a camera by doing $1 portraits,” Hugo said on Sunday when Newsport caught up with him plying his trade.

He says he has been drawing cafe portraits for about four months now.

And what is one of Hugo’s favourite things about this new creative business venture?

“Um, meeting new people,” he says.

So, when you are next out and about drinking coffee in Port Douglas, keep an eye out for one of our most determined new young artists.

And, who knows?

That $1 portrait might be worth a lot more money sometime down the track once the film career is up and running.
