Mossman Sharks trounced Edmonton Storm 70-12 in Mossman in Far North Queensland rugby league action on Sunday afternoon.

Jumping out the blocks early, Mossman piled on four unanswered tries in about 20 minutes before a late first-half rally added some respectability to the half-time scoreboard for the Storm.

Light rain started to fall towards the end of that half, causing some handling errors, while the Storm’s first try came after a lucky bounce from a restart kick sent the ball past the despairing hands of Shark Menmuny Murgha into touch right next to the tryline.

But that was the end of Edmonton’s mini fightback, with Mossman again piling on the pain in the second stanza to finish with a total of 12 tries for the game.

Charles Baira and Davin Crampton both ran in three tries each.

The Sharks are facing some tougher competition this Sunday at 3pm when they take on Cairns Brothers away.

AFL Cairns

This was a battle of top versus bottom, and Port Douglas Crocs wasted no time in establishing who was boss, piling on the goals in the first quarter and eventually running out 136-point winners.

In-form spearhead Kye Chapple kicked another lazy 10 goals in the 29.16 (190) to 8.6 (54) drubbing.

Best for the Crocs were Matt Foy, Zayne Moore, Sam Fairclough, Murphy Short, Chapple and Ben Mcphee.

The Crocs men have the bye this weekend.

In the women’s game, the Crocs started well enough against Trinity Bulldogs, kicking the first goal of the game against the run of play.

But the team could not hold back the tide of the stronger Centrals outfit, eventually losing 2.1 (13) to 10.3 (63).

Best players were Caity Walsh, Michelle Waldron, Indianna Paull, Jaimi Byrne, Megan Bell and Luca Roulstone.

The Crocs women play away against South Cairns Cutters at 11am on Saturday.

The Port Douglas Reef Raiders’ form slump has continued, going down 7-36 to the Northern Beaches Mudcrabs away on Saturday.

The team’s third scrum half in recent games, Jun Kaneshiro, scored the lone Raiders try.
