A 37-year-old Wonga Beach man has been arrested after four cars were damaged in the Cairns CBD, including a "stomp" on a car roof, according to police.

At about 10.15am yesterday (Thursday, July 10) morning, a man was seen jumping onto a parked car on Shield Street, climbing onto the roof and stomping, causing damage to the vehicle.

The man was then witnessed damaging three more cars.

A Wonga Beach man has been charged by police with wilful damage, obstructing police, public nuisance, contravening direction or requirement, and failing to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of a syringe or needle.

Bail was refused and the man was due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today (Friday, July 11).
