Locals are invited to showcase their festive spirit with dazzling displays, whether at home or in business, for a chance to win cash prizes and local vouchers. 

The goal is to make the Douglas Shire shine bright for both the community and visiting tourists.

“Whether you’re lighting up your home or your business, we want to see your most festive and imaginative displays,” said Jocelyn Schumacher, Co-owner of Raine & Horne Port Douglas/Mossman. 

“It would be wonderful to see houses, and even entire streets, decorated again, creating a magical atmosphere where families can tour the neighbourhood and marvel at the displays.”

The competition is determined by Facebook Likes, so entrants are encouraged to rally their friends, family, and neighbours to vote. 

Last year’s residential winners were 12 Dulku Close in Craiglie, which impressed the community with 186 likes, and 9/4-5 Morning Close in Port Douglas, which earned 94 likes. The commercial winner, Captain & Co Espresso, received a total of 58 likes.

Residents can expect a flyer in their mailbox throughout this week with more information about the competition.

The competition closes on Wednesday, 17 December, with winners revealed on Friday, 19 December.

Categories and prizes include:

1. Best Christmas Light Display - Residential
   Prize: $500 for the brightest and most creative home display.
2. Best Commercial Shop Front x 2 - Port Douglas
   Prize: We will purchase a 2 x $100 voucher from the top 2 winning Port Douglas businesses and gift it to a community member to spend, supporting our local businesses this Christmas.
3. Best Commercial Shop Front x 2 - Mossman
   Prize: We will also purchase a 2 x $100 voucher from the top 2 winning Mossman businesses and give it to a community member to spend, spreading the holiday cheer and supporting our local businesses across Mossman & Port Douglas.
