Mt Molloy residents had a no water Wednesday after a major water main leak drained its reservoir, with residents to be updated at a meeting in the Mt Molloy Hall at 5.30pm today, Thursday, December 4.

Mareeba Shire Council teams jumped into action to ensure residents of the town had supplies of drinking water as the leak which ran the reservoir dry was found and fixed.

Mareeba Shire Council’s head of communications Rochelle Harding said by Thursday morning the reservoir was back up to 80 per cent capacity following the pipeline fix.

“Mareeba Shire Council would like to advise residents that the Mt Molloy reservoir has successfully  refilled overnight and is currently at 80 per cent after a water main break was located and repaired yesterday,’’ advice issued this morning said.

“Council will be onsite flushing the mains today and water pressure will be restored over the coming  days.

“Council would like to thank the community for their efforts to conserve water while the reservoir has been refilling.’’

Water was carted to refill the creek fed reservoir, which supplies non-potable water for washing and cleaning across Mt Molloy.

“Residents of Mt Molloy are advised that the reservoir water is not suitable for drinking as it is not treated, but it is used in households for cleaning and washing,’’ Ms Harding said.

“No households had water so we were handing out bottles of drinking water.

“The biggest challenge was finding where the leak was. When we found where the leak was, it didn’t take long to fix, but the ground was very wet so that made it a bit of a challenge too.’’
