River flooding puts Jardine Ferry out of action
Cape York
Last updated:
The Jardine Ferry at Cape York is out of service until further notice due to flooding of the Jardine River.
The latest advice was issued by the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council today, with the river continuing to rise due to heavy rains in the region.
“Risk assessments continue to be conducted daily,” the NPARC states.
“Unsafe conditions remain.”
The ferry is currently anchored, with the height of the river causing the ramp to be pushed far higher than the bank, making it impossible for cars to drive on.
The council encourages travellers and locals to check in on the council’s Facebook page for further updates.
For emergencies, call the Jardine manager on 0447 165 207.
