Great score - new scoreboard coming to Port Douglas oval

Port Douglas oval is set to have a brand new “state-of-the-art” electronic scoreboard installed before the start of the AFL Cairns season.
The $70,000, 5m-wide by 3.5m-high installation, which is set to go in the same spot as the current outdated one, will be capable of playing action replays and even movies if the AFL club wants to hold a family fundraiser film night down the track.
Port Douglas Crocs president Matt Laskey said the old scoreboard would be coming down soon and the new one should “hopefully be up in the next month or two”.
“It will be a nice addition to the footy club,” Laskey says.
“It is state-of-the-art.”
The new scoreboard, which will be paid for through a State Government grant, will be brighter than the current one, and should be visible from virtually anywhere around the Port Douglas Sports Complex arena.
The Muddies cricket teams will also potentially be able to post score sheets and other statistics on the screen during cricket season, should they wish to do so.
The grant money has been made available through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, which taxes poker-machine venues to return some cash to grassroots sports clubs.
And the Crocs are not the only ones in the region to benefit from the fund recently, with the Sharks Rugby League Club receiving $20,000 last month to build new cabinets at their Mossman rooms.
