The Muddies Third Grade team travelled to Griffiths Park in Cairns to take on Norths on Saturday in the Cricket Far North competition.

Winning the toss and bowling on a good pitch with a damp outfield, the side got off to a fine start, with some tight bowling by openers Cam Williams and Jackson Hopkins restricting Norths' scoring.

A change in the bowling forced a pair of breakthroughs, with the first-change attack of Adrian Bannerman and Nathan King both snaring wickets.

The bowling side was on top for long periods, but a few dropped catches did not help the cause.

The introduction of Jared Patrenko helped further, with his tight bowling producing a further two wickets and more dropped catches.

Williams chimed in for a wicket after a sharp catch from youngster Blair Zahnow at short fine leg before lightning and thunder stopped the play at 5/107 in the 29th over.

And soon the rain started bucketing down, causing the match to be abandoned.

On Sunday, the Fourths travelled to Mareeba, with the Bushy Creek Bridge just reopening in time to allow for the journey to the Tablelands region following a Saturday night rain deluge.

After winning the toss and batting, the Muddies got to 6/74 in the 31st over, with Ken Lockhart top scoring on 22 not out.

But, with the weather again striking, that match was also abandoned.

Luckily the team made it back through Bushy Creek OK, and all reports are everyone is home safe and well.

This weekend there are no Muddies games due to the Australia Day long weekend.

Indoor golf

The Daddyshack Indoor Golf competition played on the back nine holes of Brookwater golf course.

All teams again scored more than the par of 18 points, with the winners being Doug and Jamie, who were victorious with 24 points on a countback from league leaders Tim and Peter.

Joe and Matt came in third on 23 points.

Next week you can leave your drivers at home as we will be playing the par-three course Top of the Rock.

It is the only par-three course that is actually in rotation on a professional golf tour, so it is not easy.

League Ladder:

1. Tim/Peter 107 pts

2. Joe/Matt 101 pts

3. Peter/John 100 pts

4. Dave/Rhys 99 pts

5. Doug/Jamie 98 pts

6. Mark/Nick 95 pts

7. Deb/Bec 85 pts

8. Brad/Simon 47 pts

9. Lance/Ryan 26 pts
