A 22-year-old man has been arrested following a stabbing incident in Mareeba about a fortnight ago.

On Thursday, January 8, at about 12.40pm, two men who knew each other stepped out of a pair of cars parked on the corner of Rankin and Byrnes Streets in Mareeba and began arguing, according to at least one witness.

Following the altercation, a 33-year-old was rushed to hospital with a stab wound to his right arm, while the other man allegedly fled the scene.

Tablelands detectives last Friday arrested a 22-year-old Kuranda man and charged him with grievous bodily harm and entering premises with intent.

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on Friday, January 23.

Investigations are continuing, Mareeba police are urging anyone with relevant information to make contact.
