The Port Douglas Crocs women’s team is on the lookout for a new coach.

The coach last year was Ryan Roulstone, but the club began advertising for a new one last week.

In better news for the team, Cosmos cocktail lounge has come on as a major sponsor, and will pay for all the registration fees for the players.

In terms of the season launch, the Crocs teams will start this year’s campaign a week ahead of the main draw, with the first game scheduled for Good Friday.

The Port Douglas men will take on reigning premiers North Cairns Tigers at home at 2pm on Friday, April 3, with the rest of the games in the competition starting on April 11.

The women will start off the Good Friday game day’s proceedings at 10.15am.

The men also have a pre-season game on March 20 at Watson’s Oval in Cairns against the Saints.

Junior sport sign-ons

The Crocs AFL juniors are holding their sign-on day tomorrow (Wednesday, February 11) from 4.30pm at Port Douglas Sporting Complex.

And the Sharks rugby league club started its junior training schedule last week, and is training regularly from now on, while the Douglas United Dragons junior soccer teams are holding introductory training sessions this Thursday and next Tuesday and Thursday at the club’s pitch at Cassowary Road, Mossman.

Cricket

Most Douglas Muddies Thirds team games since Christmas have been abandoned due to the weather, making it hard to build any momentum.

The team is back home this weekend for the first time in months due to a quirk in the draw, and play Rovers on Saturday from 1pm.

The Fourths’ game was also washed out last weekend, and they play Atherton in Atherton on Sunday from 12.30pm this round.
