Second stage of industrial estate back on the drawing board
Craiglie development
The heavy machinery may soon start moving around Craiglie Business Park Stage Two, with fresh plans for a more than $1.2m 31-lot industrial subdivision submitted to Douglas Shire Council this month.
Originally proposed way back in 2007, the close to 5ha greenfields allotment on the left-hand side as you turn into the current Craiglie business estate from the Captain Cook Highway is now in the hands of a private Australian company called KAN Developments.
A letter to the DSC from Cairns-based civil engineers OSE Group - one of the companies involved in the 31-lot Paradise Point housing development at Palm Cove - states the developers are now seeking “operational works approval” for the site.
“The design is for 17 large industrial allotments and includes a new cul-de-sac to provide access to Beor Street,” the engineers state.
The estimated construction cost of the project is more than $1.2m, according to the letter.
The Craiglie Business Park Stage Two subdivision was originally approved in 2007, then the plans were redrawn in 2015.
There were further changes made in 2017 and the development was then granted another deadline extension to 2024.
In 2018 the block was sold off, with further extensions to the expiry date of development plans to February, 2028, granted in 2024.
The original 2007 plans included a larger block for the Paws and Claws animal shelter to move into, but that element has now been removed.
