New chance to take the small tourism town crown
Shire industry
One Queensland tourist town has won the Top Tourism Town Award in the 1500-5000 population category for four years in a row - Airlie Beach.
But nominations are now open for the 2026 Queensland Tourism Industry Awards - a $20,000 advertising prize that Port Douglas must have at least an outside chance to snare.
Cook MP David Kempton is encouraging those in the Far North Queensland region to nominate for two relevant categories - Top Tourism Town and Top Tour Guide.
“While I might be a little biased,” Mr Kempton says.
“I know Cook is full of hidden gems and even better people who deserve the recognition.
“Come on, COOK!”
Only local tourism associations, councils, tourism visitor centres and accredited businesses can nominate, and nominations close on Monday, March 9.
