Driver filmed trying to drive through Mossman floodwaters
Shire weather
A driver has been caught on a Douglas Shire Council floodwatch camera stranded in floodwaters after trying to drive through north of Foxton Bridge at Mossman yesterday.
The ute driver became stuck in floodwaters north of the bridge at about 6.15am on Tuesday morning following a huge overnight downpour of up to 300mm of rain higher up the river.
They were reportedly towed out by an onlooker before the high tide mark was reached later that morning.
Many parts of Mossman experienced the overnight deluge, causing flash flooding in catchment areas including the Mossman River and the South Mossman River.
Overnight deluge in Mossman causes road closures
The Foxton Bridge was closed to through traffic, with the northern carpark fully underwater and the toilet block and barbecue areas turned into islands.
The flood plain north of the river was underwater, and Bonnie Doon Road between Mossman and Cooya Beach was completely underwater at the junction bridge over the South Mossman River.
More rain is expected across coming days with a monsoon low sitting off the Far North Queensland coast.
Queensland police remind drivers that it doesn’t matter what car you drive, or how good you are at driving. As soon as you enter floodwater, your car can’t protect you.
