Far North Queensland’s main electricity supplier has moved to reassure people it is ready to respond swiftly to damage to power lines caused by Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

Ergon Energy chief operating officer Jeff Green said there were more than 200 crews ready to respond and critical spare parts had been delivered to remote and isolated communities.

“This is a very intense cyclone,” Mr Green said.

“So we're expecting to see some pretty significant damage and we will make sure that we respond as it's safe to do so.”

"We're ready to go.”

Mr Green said a cyclone of this intensity will definitely cause damage to power lines, buildings and electricity poles.

“It will be difficult,” he said.

“These are remote and isolated areas of the state.

“It's difficult to access as these are already cut off from so much wet weather already, but our crews are ready to go.”

He warned of fallen power lines hidden by vegetation and debris.

“Make sure you stay well clear once the cyclone's passed.

“We will come and make sure it's safe.”
