Douglas Shire’s tourism association has moved to make sure everyone knows the region is still open for business after Tropical Cyclone Narelle passed by Coen and headed west this morning.

“Tropical Cyclone Narelle has crossed the coast well north of Port Douglas and is moving west away from the region,” a Tourism Port Douglas Daintree release stated.

“Port Douglas and the Douglas Shire are not experiencing cyclone conditions.

“Current conditions are limited to rain, some wind and isolated thunderstorms.

“Rainfall is expected to ease from Saturday, with improving conditions into Sunday and early next week.”

TPDD stated no significant impacts from Narelle had been reported across the Shire, with minimal State Emergency Service activity.

“Port Douglas remains safe for visitors and continues to operate,” TPDD stated.

“The main disruption is access to the Daintree, with the ferry currently out of service.”

The overall outlook remains positive, with the system continuing to move away and conditions stabilising over the coming days, the statement read.
