Atherton man in custody
A 36-year-old Atherton man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Mareeba on April 17.
Police allege that around 1.30pm, a woman was approached by a man who was armed with a knife, he threatened her before stealing her vehicle.
A child, who was in the vehicle at the time of the alleged incident, was safely removed prior to the vehicle leaving the scene.
The woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to Atherton Hospital for treatment.
Later that day the vehicle was found on the Mareeba-Dimbulah Road.
Following investigations, a 36-year-old Atherton man was taken into custody on April 18.
He has been charged with one count of armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving while unlicensed.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Mareeba Magistrates Court on April 20.
