A huge roar went up around Port Douglas Sports Complex during the second quarter of the clash on Saturday as Dustin “Dusty” Martin employed his trademark “don’t argue” move on  a hapless South Cairns opponent - this may have been the moment when it sunk in for the about 3000-strong crowd that they were witnessing something special on home turf.

A three-time Richmond AFL premier, Martin came to play on Saturday in the top-of-the-table clash with South Cairns Cutters, racking up multiple touches and two goals as the Crocs ran out comfortable 47-point winners, 16.11 (107) to 9.6 (60).

The Brownlow medallist - who was best on ground in all three grand final wins - started racking up touches from the first bounce.

But when he was down on his haunches after about five minutes, many were wondering if he would be able to last to half time.

Then Dusty dribbled through a soccer goal and later curled through a classy set shot to post two goals and make a major contribution to the Port Douglas Crocs’ comfortable win against the only other undefeated team in the league.

Dusty was embraced enthusiastically by his new teammates and was spotted several times directing traffic in the forward lines, calling on his vast AFL experience to help out after the Cutters started strongly.

All in all it was a great day for the club and fans, with everyone from the under-8s team to wheelchair-bound seniors in the grandstand leaving with huge smiles on their beaming faces.
