Let's get the party started
Newsport Daily Print
It is party time in Port Douglas, with Carnivale just around the corner, and Newsport has you covered with all the entertainment and happenings coming to town.
The latest edition of Newsport Daily Print, out on the stands now and FREE, captures the excitement on our doorstep.
From feasts to fire performers, burlesque, car shows and the Carnivale Street Parade and, of course, Savannah Sounds, there’s all the news on the more than 30 shows over 10 days of Port Douglas Carnivale packed into the print edition.
But before the colour of the Carnivale gets underway, there’s the job of celebrating our mums this Sunday for Mother’s Day. There’s plenty of ideas on how you can do that and support one of our great local businesses.
Also being celebrated, Ellen Ross, of the Wonga Beach Rural Fire Brigade who has won the Women’s Day Rural Fire Award for the Northern Region Rural Fire Service Queensland.
And, we have been celebrating local independent journalism, highlighting the heavy lifting community news services do with public interest journalism which creates informed voters, covering governments at all levels, holding power to account, and bringing communities together by sharing and recording our common threads and diverse voices.
In the news, a $1.35m plan to fix the drainage at Wonga has been unveiled by Douglas Shire Council, social housing is rapidly going up in Mossman; and Cooya, Newell and Wonga Beach will be the scene for a new phone emergency-warning system.
It was a huge weekend in sport locally, with AFL star Dusty Martin making a guest appearance for the Port Douglas Crocs in a big win and as a big winner with fans young and old.
