Think pink at Port Douglas oval this Saturday for a great cause

The annual Pink Round for the Reef Raiders rugby union and Crocs AFL teams will be played this Saturday in Port Douglas.
All the teams will don special pink guernseys for the Pink in the Tropics event, with fundraising throughout the day and two guernsey and jersey auctions being held afterwards to help raise more money to assist women with breast cancer.
Pink in the Tropics president Deborah Kachel says money raised will go towards a care program and other support services for women who are going through breast cancer, as well as providing equipment for Mossman Hospital.
“We really appreciate the support from the Crocs and the Raiders because it really helps us raise money,” Mrs Kachel says.
”It’s great.”
Crocs women’s captain Kaity McPhee says the club is right behind the event.
“It’s a big day for all of us, everybody knows someone who’s been affected by cancer,” she says.
“It’s a lot more than footy when you go out there on pink day, it’s great to give back.”
Raiders captain Luke Edwards says the club is really excited to be a part of this event again.
“It’s always a big day for the community,” Edwards says.
“It’s nice to have the whole community down to support both codes.”
He says the club raised more than $5000 from the jersey-sale profits last year, and he was aiming for a win on Saturday to put everyone in a “buying mood” so they can top that amount.
The day kicks off at 10.15am with the women's game against Cairns Saints and the final match is the Raiders against last year’s premier JCU Mariners from 5pm.
