The spirit of the Douglas Shire is heading back to the tracks this month as the Yalanji Run and Walk (RAW) enters its second year.

Set for Saturday, May 30, at the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, the event is a highlight of National Reconciliation Week, focusing on culture, connection, and moving forward together.

This year’s theme, “ALL IN - Moving Forward Together,” invites everyone,no matter their age or fitness level, to walk, run, roll, or simply show up to support a shared future.

There is a 1K path perfect for a gentle stroll or the little ones, a 2.5K route for a steady walk or jog, and a 5K track for those ready to hit their stride.

School groups are encouraged to take part, with the event offering a blend of cultural learning, physical activity and community participation.

Douglas Shire Deputy Mayor Roy Zammataro said the pre-run atmosphere added something special to an event already grounded in reconciliation and community wellbeing.

“A dance instructor getting everyone moving will create such a positive buzz and beat any caffeine hit you’d need first thing in the morning,” Cr Zammataro said.

“The warm-up is just as much fun as the run itself, so come along from 7am and make a morning of it.”

Cr Zammataro said Yalanji RAW continued to grow as a meaningful moment in the shire’s reconciliation calendar.

“Yalanji RAW brings people together in a way that celebrates culture, connection and fitness,” he said.

“It’s a community event that reflects who we are and what we value.”

Participants are asked to arrive from 7am, with the warm-up beginning shortly after and the run starting at 7.30am.

Registration is open now for all ages and abilities, welcoming anyone ready to take a step toward a more connected community. Register here.
