Officers from the Tablelands Property Crime Unit have charged a 17-year-old boy with 25 offences following a string of incidents in the Atherton area over the past several days.
It will be alleged the boy stole a white Toyota Hilux from an Atherton address between May 26 and May 27
The vehicle was reportedly involved in a fuel drive-off at an Atherton service station before being abandoned in bushland at Irvinebank, where it was later located destroyed by fire.
On Sunday, May 31, it will be further alleged that the boy broke into a Tower Avenue, Atherton address, where he threatened a 60-year-old female resident before assaulting her and fleeing.
It will be further alleged that on Wednesday, June 3, the boy was involved in an incident where a stolen vehicle dangerously drove at police on Viola Street, Atherton.
Further offences are alleged to have occurred across the Atherton area and the wider Tablelands.
Officers located the boy yesterday near Rita Close, where he was taken into custody.
He has since been charged with four counts of burglary, three counts of stealing, two counts each of attempted burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, wilful damage, and one count each of attempted armed robbery, attempted enter premises, possessing knife in a public place, possess drug utensils, possess tainted property, possess dangerous drug, unlicenced driving.
The 17-year-old has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, June 5.
Since its inception, the Tablelands Property Crime Unit has arrested 144 offenders on 604 charges, demonstrating its commitment to community safety across the region.
