Remote country racing fans are in for a treat this weekend with the four-day Laura Races and Rodeo carnival taking place.

Run by the Laura Amateur Turf  Club, the unique event is a celebration of Outback culture, which includes a variety of horse sports, thoroughbred racing, a rodeo and bands at the Cape York town of Laura from Thursday, June 27, to Sunday, June 28.

“Who’s getting excited?” race organisers say.

“Who’s ready? Giddy up.”

Visitors can camp at the venue from 8am on Thursday, with bands Slippery, Careless and The Barnyard Band playing across the four nights.

Thursday night includes a family event, Friday includes horse sports, the main horse racing takes place on the Saturday, and the rodeo happens on Sunday.
