The final design for a new $1.2m 13-lot industrial estate on Beor Street at Craiglie has this week been approved by Douglas Shire Council.

Originally conceived last year as a 17-lot site by private development company KAN Developments, which is headed up by local businesspeople including Krystal DeMenna, the council planners ticked off on 13 lots following negotiations with the group.

“The engineering design has been revised and the number of lots reduced from 17 to 13 by amalgamating some of the lots,” an engineer’s letter to the council dated May 18 states.

“Many of the issues raised… related to the stormwater design and, as a result, the stormwater design was revised to eliminate the open concrete-lined drains.” 

The council approved the estate on Monday subject to some conditions being met, such as the updated drainage works.

The plans include two dead-end streets running up the middle of the 13 allotments from Beor Street.

Craiglie Business Park Stage Two was originally approved back in 2007 on an about 5ha greenfields allotment on the left-hand side as you turn into the current Beor Road business estate from Captain Cook Highway.
