Team Chaos has turned the tables on last year’s Grand Final opponent Cougars to win the 2026 Douglas Netball Association premiership.

In a high-quality game, Chaos forged ahead to win 41-20 in front of a decent crowd at Port Douglas Sporting Complex.

Cougars were the 2025 reigning premiers.

Gaelic football

The Four Mile gaelic football club hosted the Cairns Chieftains on Saturday in two friendly matches at Port Douglas Sporting Complex.

Both the men's and women’s teams played four quarters each on the day, taking turns to play a quarter each.

Both games were freeflowing, with the talented women’s team dominating its match, while the men’s game was a bit more even, with Four Mile going down to the Chieftans.

On Saturday, August 29, the Carpenter Cup seven-a-side competition will be played at Watson’s Oval in Manunda from 8am.

The tournament is held in memory of Nicholas Carpenter, who was instrumental in setting  up the Queensland Gaelic Football and Hurling Association.

Soccer

Douglas United trounced Leichhardt 11-0 on Friday night to make sure of qualifying for the finals with one round to play.

In the last home-and-away game of the year, the Dragons play Stratford Dolphins away this Friday night.

AFL Cairns

Port Douglas is at home this Saturday against Manunda Hawks from 1pm, directly after the reserves game from 11am.

Both senior men’s sides are currently sitting top of the ladder, so the Crocs will be looking to consolidate with two games left in the minor round.

South Cairns is sitting second in both competitions.

Currently sitting fourth, the Crocs women’s team will play the late game from 3.45pm against the bottom-placed Hawks on Saturday.
