Drones will be filming over Mossman and surrounding areas throughout this week, but a Douglas Shire Council spokesperson has moved to assure people they will “not be used to monitor people or private activities”.

The reason given for the “drone surveys” is to film an invasive vine.

“The survey will capture aerial imagery to help identify and map hiptage,” the spokesperson said.

“The information collected will support future monitoring and targeted control activities.

“The survey is focused on vegetation and will not be used to monitor people or private activities.”

Residents may hear drones flying over their homes and properties any time during the day from today (Monday, August 24) to Friday, August 28, especially near waterways.

The drone mapping is being funded by the State Government’s Natural Resources Investment Program through Terrain NRM.
