Snorkeller who was airlifted from Port Douglas last week dies in hospital

A woman in her 60s who was rushed from a boat 60km off the coast to Cairns hospital via Port Douglas last Wednesday after a snorkelling incident has died.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said last week the snorkeller suffered a medical episode off the coast of Port Douglas at about 12.30pm on August 26.
The woman was rushed back to the Port Douglas docks and transported by ambulance to a waiting medevac helicopter at Port Douglas oval, which took off not long after 3.30pm that day.
A spokeswoman for the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service said last Thursday the woman was in a critical condition in Cairns hospital.
Following the death, the matter has been referred to Queensland police to liaise with her next of kin.
