Tali Hoye is not joking when she says she has been in a gym since before she could walk.

And the 22-year-old gymnast plans to stay in the sport for as long as she can.

“I haven’t thought about a plan for after gym yet… probably go more into coaching.”

“Gym takes up your whole life.”

The former Newell Beach youngster is right about that too. She has moved down to Brisbane from Cairns to dedicate her life to her gymnastics, training 20 hours a week in five 4 hour sessions and juggling three jobs - two in hospitality and one as a gymnastics coach - to make ends meet.

Tali has competed from the age of four and says gymnastics is “such a cool sport” that not everyone can just do.

“It is great being with the team and the competitors, the coaches… they are basically your family,’’ she said.

“Gymnastics teaches you lots of good things like resilience.”

Tali grew up in Newell Beach to the age of 12 and attended Mossman District Gymnastic Club until the family relocated to Cairns having made the commute there for gymnastics training for two years.

“I loved gymnastics from the start, and still do and it would be great for Mossman District Gymnastic Club to get more recognition and more membership,’’ she said.

“Hopefully I can help inspire the next generation of gymnasts.’’

Having graduated high school, Tali moved to Brisbane to chase her dream of competing on the international stage, a dream that is about to come true and one she hopes to get some financial support to achieve.

Over the past six years, Tali has been a five-time Queensland representative at Australian National Championships.

This year, she scored the Australian National Beam Champion and was also State Champion on floor and beam in level 10 open.
