Charity ride nets more than $100,000 for mental health

About 75 motorbike riders finished a charity run from Melbourne to Port Douglas on the weekend, raising about $125,000 for mental-health services.
The Black Dog Ride organisation runs charity events across Australia, with about 275 riders from across the country linking up in Cairns on Saturday night on different routes.
Victorian state coordinator Bernie Garvey said his crew included riders from other regions including South Australia and Tasmania, with some staying on to enjoy the beautiful weather and lifestyle in this part of the world.
“My wife and I thought we’d take a few days off,” he said.
“We went to Cooktown yesterday.”
The Black Dog Ride organisation was founded in 2009 to raise awareness of mental-health issues such as depression and suicide.
