POLICE NEWS: Man jailed after domestic-violence incident in Port Douglas

A Douglas Shire man has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for assaulting his former partner in a Port Douglas street.
Cairns District Court heard Bailey James Morrison, 24, chased his partner at the time down a road, caught her and bashed her head on the concrete ground, dragged her by her hair, and inflicted multiple other injuries to her in September last year during an argument.
The incident took place in the street of his family’s Port Douglas home.
Morrison pleaded guilty to five charges including assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation.
He also attempted to run away from police when they came to question him, leading to a further guilty plea and conviction for obstructing justice.
Judge Dean Morzone sentenced the 24-year-old to three years and six months behind bars.
