DOUGLAS Shire Council will temporarily close the Daintree River Ferry for two days in March 2022 to replace the vessel’s southern loading ramp.

The important repair work, which involves removing the damaged ramp and replacing it with a newly fabricated ramp, will ensure the crossing remains safe for the public to use heading into the post-COVID tourism season.

The ferry service will cease at 10pm on Friday 11 March 2022 and resume at 5am on Monday 14 March 2022, weather permitting.

Emergency services have made alternative arrangements during this period.
Council is finalising arrangements for a passenger ferry which will enable pedestrians to cross the river, however there will not be a vehicle ferry service for the 48-hour period.

Enquiries
If you would like to discuss your individual circumstances, please contact Council’s Community Liaison Officer Gaye Scott on 0418 793 009.

BALLET FOR SENIORS

Every Tuesday & Wednesday through the school terms from 10:30 - 11:45am

Ballet for Seniors; is formed with the QLD Ballet framework, is low impact with no jumping and turns and no excessive extensions or bends. Focusing a lot on balance, stability, blood flow and coordination with stimulating sequences and patterns. This class is still challenging but leans more towards the ageing population to keep the body and mind active. It has been so well received with a number of different abilities and capabilities already attending on a weekly basis.

Don't let the word 'Ballet' scare you! Classes have a great focus on social interactions; A social lifestyle and interactions carry a range of wider health benefits such as the delaying or preventing of certain diseases, improvement of the immune and circulatory system and more efficient recovery from small illness or injury. Through extensive research, it is now widely believed that lifestyle plays a huge part in the onset, the speed of deterioration and the symptoms that individuals may face with conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia which affect the brain. Stimulating the mind is widely considered to be beneficial in extending quality of life and therefore why we at BIM believe in going the extra mile in providing the community with this fantastic opportunity to “socialise & keep active” through this fantastic program.
