TMR has confirmed the Captain Cook Highway between in both directions near Shannonvale is currently closed due to a single vehicle accident.

More details and information when they become available.

 

Police said a 43-year-old man was located later that day with a non-life threatening single gunshot wound to a leg.

Lastly, the Forensic Crash Unit continues to investigate after the death of a 77 year-old man following a traffic crash in Mareeba just days ago.

Police said early Investigations indicate a 2004 Mazda3, a 2020 Mitsubishi Triton and a 2015 Honda CB125 motorbike were involved in a traffic crash at around 10.30am on Herberton Street last Thursday.

As a result the 77-year-old Mareeba man sustained life-threatening injuries and later, very sadly, passed away from his injuries at Cairns Hospital.

Police said the occupants of the other two vehicles were uninjured.
