Primary schools from across the region came together last week for a gala sports and training day with special guest coaches, including a triple Olympian.

More than 200 year six students from Mossman, Port Douglas, Julatten, Miallo, Daintree, and Wonga State Schools competed across Netball, Basketball, AFL, or Rugby on Thursday at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex and the Port Douglas Basketball courts.

Students were able to select a sport for the day, spending the morning participating in training and drill sessions before putting their new skills to the test in a round-robin competition hosted by the local sporting clubs.

Students on the basketball courts were treated to special guest coaches, former Australian Opals Captain, Hall of Famer, and triple Olympian, Trish Fallon, and Cairns Taipans coach, Geoff Benson.

While over on the netball courts students were mentored by Heather McLaren from the Marlin Coast Netball Academy.
