4 MILE BEACH MONTHLY CLEAN-UP When: Wednesday 13th December 2023 | 1pm – 4pm Where: Daintree Lounge at the Sheraton Grand Mirage, Port Douglas To Register: Please email [email protected] Looking for a way to be part of practical solutions for our environment? Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas is one of our longest-running QLD beach monitoring sites. We have been cleaning and collecting data from this site each month for the past 12 years. Volunteers need to wear enclosed shoes, bring sun/rain protection, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all Tangaroa Blue events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle. All equipment and drinking water top-ups will be provided. To register or for any questions, please email [email protected]. Thank you for dedicating your energy towards protecting our oceans, and we look forward to seeing you out on the beach! A huge thank you to the Mostyn Family Foundation for funding this clean-up event. | 30.11.2023 10:25 | Stef | [email protected] | ||

TURTLE NESTING SEASON November to March Did you know that it is turtle nesting season? To give these beautiful babies the best chance at life, please: Stay off vegetation to avoid trampling nests Do not drive cars and quad bikes on our beaches Keep nesting beaches dark and safe for sea turtles. Turn off, shield, or redirect lights visible from the beach. (Lights disorient hatchling sea turtles and discourage nesting females from coming onto the beach to lay their eggs); Do not disturb nesting turtles, nests, or hatchlings; Fill in holes and knock down sandcastles before you leave the beach. (They can become obstacles for nesting turtles or emerging hatchlings); and Remember that dogs must always be on a leash at any of our beaches. If you notice any turtle stranding, or other wildlife in distress, please call 1300 130 372 | 12.11.2023 15:52 | Gurringun Aboriginal Corporation | [email protected] |
