The Role: Gardener & Yard Person
We are seeking a dedicated Cleaning and Gardening Person to help maintain the grounds of Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas. This hands-on role involves general yard maintenance and cleaning and contributing to the natural beauty and functionality of the sanctuary.

NO INTEREST LOAN SCHEME (NILS) WORKER

Position – Purpose, Responsibilities and Duties

The NILS Worker is responsible for the delivery of the No Interest Loan Scheme to eligible community members, providing safe, accessible and confidential financial support to individuals and families on low incomes. The role supports clients to access fair and affordable credit, build financial capability, and reduce reliance on high-cost lending, while working within program guidelines, organisational policies and funding requirements.

Key responsibilities and duties include assessing client eligibility, completing intake and loan applications, supporting clients with budgeting and repayment planning, maintaining accurate and confidential records, liaising and collaborating with external stakeholders, monitoring repayments, contributing to reporting and data collection, and promoting the NILS program within the community. The role also involves building positive relationships with clients and stakeholders, working in a culturally safe and trauma-informed manner, and participating in supervision, training and continuous quality improvement activities.

The role will include weekly local outreach to Mossman, as well as quarterly outreach visits to the Cooktown, Hopevale and Wujal Wujal communities. These quarterly outreach activities will require extended travel and overnight stays as part of service delivery.

- Deliver the No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) in line with Good Shepherd and funding guidelines.

Sustainability

- Participate in annual reviews and fortnightly catch ups with Family & Financial Resilience Coordinator

- Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and represent the NILS Program at relevant meetings and forums
- Build and maintain effective relationships with local services, referral agencies and community groups.

The successful candidates will be expected to work harmoniously and productively with the current, committed and professional restaurant team. A mature, resilient approach and excellent reliability are essential for these roles.

There is a very strong customer service element to the roles which will suit people-focussed persons who enjoy communicating with a diverse range of customers who are visiting Hartley’s to experience exciting nature.

Previous work as a Barista will be highly regarded, as will the experience to organise and manage stock in the storeroom. The ability to safely complete tasks that involve frequent heavy lifting of stock items is required.

Duties include POS operation, serving meals, waiting on tables and maintaining restaurant cleanliness and presentation.

RSA and Food Safety qualifications are mandatory.
