This Saturday night at Iron Bar sees a reunion between two of FNQ’s top musicians with the coming together of Kiki Courtidis and Alex Matheson-Brown.

Many Douglas Shire residents will be familiar with Kiki’s recent exploits as she is no doubt the Port music scene’s most famous pandemic sea-changer. This weekend shapes up as the most anticipated show in recent times as the Aria-winner teams up with Matheson-Brown again after several years without taking the stage together.

“Alex is an amazing artist and musician, and I can’t wait to play with him again tomorrow night,” Kiki said.

The pair shared residencies on Hamilton Island for some time and have fused together countless times as a duo, trio or as part of a full band having lots of fun on stage.

“We really love playing together. Alex plays a few instruments as well so sometimes we’ll swap around halfway through a show.

He has a unique vocal style running over rock guitar vibes and his fusion of popular songs “takes Triple J Like A Version to a whole new level” according to Kiki.

Matheson-Brown has quite a CV as well and the 30-year-old from Tannum Sands has worked all over Australia, including major sporting events like AFL matches and Audi Race Week. His ability on guitar, bass and drums combined with his unique vocals makes Matheson-Brown a very exciting prospect with Kiki under the corrugated roof at Iron Bar.

“Kiki is such a crazy musician and playing with her in Hamilton Island really brought my level way up. We would sometimes play together three nights a week, so we know each other’s style back to front,” said Matheson-Brown.

The third member of Saturday’s trio is Shaun Dunnet, a childhood friend and long-time collaborator with Matheson-Brown.

“Shaun is one of the best, he’s so adaptable. He’s a metal drummer but can really do anything. He’s never played with Kiki but I’ve played with each of them heaps before and I know he’ll be great with Kiki,” he said.

So what can the Iron Bar faithful expect on Saturday when the trio hit the stage?

“Each of us hold space in contrasting genres of music but work to bring out the best of those individual styles resulting in a set list of soul, rock punk and pop classics. We’re talking from the Beatles to Flume and everything in between.

“We don’t take ourselves too seriously we just love to party and shred. We’re going to absolutely rip Macrossan, might be a good idea to leave Sunday open for recovery.

This is going to be a good one, bring it on!
