The Port Douglas Sporting Complex will be a sea of pink on Saturday for the sixth annual Pink in the Tropics charity match.

The match will raise money in support of local charity, Pink in the Tropics; a breast cancer support group that raises funds and awareness for women of the Far North region.

The Port Douglas Crocs will run out onto the field in pink and white jumpers to face off against the Cairns Saints who will also be donning pink in support.

The reserves kick off at 12:00pm followed by the senior’s game at 2:00pm.

Annie Richardson, Pink in the Tropics match coordinator said she hopes the pink day will prompt ladies to get checked.

“The purpose is to raise money for and bring awareness to breast cancer and to try and encourage ladies to get a mammogram,” she said.

“It is very important to get checked and the breast screen bus is even at Mossman Hospital at the moment.”

Pink in the Tropics offers women battling the disease emotional support as well as organises services to make day-to-day life during a difficult time a little bit easier, such as cooking, gardening, and cleaning.

Ms Richardson said she continues to be blown away by the support from the local community and the Crocs AFL Club.

“Locals and business go above and beyond year after year, I can’t say enough how generous everyone is and how grateful the Pink in the Tropics team is to them.

“Crocs have supported us wholeheartedly for years, for them, it is a day to salute all women particularly those who have had breast cancer.”

Auctions and raffles will be held on the day with some awesome prizes up for grabs thanks to generous local businesses.

“The highlight of the silent auction is a match ball from the 2020 grand final held at the Gabba in Brisbane,” Ms Richardson said.

A pre-game fundraiser luncheon at the Palmer Sea Reef Golf Club will kick off the day’s festivities.

Money raised from the day goes towards covering the costs of the services Pink in the Tropics provides to those battling Breast Cancer, as well as supporting the McGrath Foundation’s Breast Care Nurses.

Following the game, live music will be played at the grounds from 6:00pm.

Port Douglas Crocs President, Chris Bradsworth, said the club is honoured to be a part of such an important match.

“The club really loves being successful on the field, but it is very important and fulfilling to us to support our community also,” he said.

“There will be a silent auction of goods on the day as well as Pink and white footy jumpers on sale for all at $70.”
