A 32-year-old Mossman man is in a stable condition in Cairns Hospital following a serious single-vehicle crash on the Captain Cook Highway overnight.

Around 9:50pm on Tuesday, a Holden utility vehicle crashed after veering off the highway near Shannonvale Road, just south of Mossman.

A QAS spokesperson said the man was transported to Mossman Hospital in a serious but stable condition with head, leg and pelvic injuries.

“He was later airlifted by rescue helicopter to Cairns Hospital.”

The road was closed resulting in significant delays for motorists but has since been cleared.

Police investigations are continuing.
