Douglas Shire businesses now have more options when it comes to electricity with the launch of Next Business Energy in the region.

Next Business Energy entered the Far North Queensland business energy retail electricity market last week.

Until recently, there has been little opportunity for small businesses to choose other energy retailers in the far north areas of Queensland.

Furthermore, the policy stopping small business customers from returning to Ergon if they wished has been removed.

Established in 2014, Next Business Energy supplies more than 14000 customers nationally and CEO David Hayes said the recent changes in Queensland’s competition rules prompted them to bring their product north.

“We are now expanding our service to businesses in the Douglas Shire,” he said.

“We have award winning flexible tailored options with competitive prices, which means customers could see significant savings, it’s the same electricity going through the same poles and wires just a different provider.

“We are a small business looking after small businesses and we have an experienced team made up of people in the industry all based in Australia and we have local representation here in Port Douglas through our Regional Manager, Dean Scadding.”

Next Business Energy’s aim is to provide competitive rates for small to medium-sized businesses, along with other innovations such as solar energy sharing.

Solar energy sharing, or peer to peer trading, is where you install a solar system on a business or farm and notionally share the exported solar to other businesses, farms or even your home.

Solar sharing technology is exciting for business, as many businesses lease their building and or have an unsuitable roof to have solar installed. Solar sharing technology will provide the opportunity to notionally share solar from other Businesses or farms in our community.

“We’re excited to offer our services to businesses in Far North Queensland and would love the opportunity to see if we can save your business money on energy bills.”, said Ryan O’Hare, Executive Chairman.

“While we specialise in business customers, soon we may be able to supply electricity to your home… so watch this space in the coming months.”
