4 Mile Beach Monthly Clean-up
|
When: Wednesday 13th December 2023 | 1pm – 4pm
Where: Daintree Lounge at the Sheraton Grand Mirage, Port Douglas
To Register: Please email [email protected]
Looking for a way to be part of practical solutions for our environment? Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas is one of our longest-running QLD beach monitoring sites. We have been cleaning and collecting data from this site each month for the past 12 years.
Volunteers need to wear enclosed shoes, bring sun/rain protection, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all Tangaroa Blue events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle.
All equipment and drinking water top-ups will be provided. To register or for any questions, please email [email protected]. Thank you for dedicating your energy towards protecting our oceans, and we look forward to seeing you out on the beach!
A huge thank you to the Mostyn Family Foundation for funding this clean-up event.

LADY VALIANT + MAS MINIMALS + STU HARCOURT
|
LADY VALIANT + MAS MINIMALS + STU HARCOURT
Tanks Arts Centre - Tank 5
With their minimalist style, Lady Valiant weaves together the soulful essence of old-school blues from the Deep South with a modern rock twist, resulting in an original sound that captivates audiences. The band's arsenal includes dirty slide guitar, raw and soulful vocals backed by a rock solid rhythm section engine room that establishes their authentic and powerful presence on stage.
Lady Valiant have graced various festivals, such as Bendigo Blues & Roots Festival, Mitchell Creek Rock & Blues, Wallaby Creek Festival, Black Mountain UnPlugged, Tablelands Folk Festival, Yackandandah Folk Festival. They have supported renowned artists like Ash Grunwald, Jon Stevens & You Am I. Their fusion of Delta Blues with a contemporary rock edge sets them apart, making them a force to be reckoned with.
Supporting the 'Vals in this performance are are local band Mas Minimals and solo legend Stu Harcourt. Drawing influence from Desert Rock, Blues & Alternative Music, Mas Minimals deliver their own unique brand of swamp and garage rock, with punchy riffs and catchy arrangements to make your foot stomp. Stu Harcourt has been a solo touring for over 20 years seeing him perform all over Australia and internationally, in that time has 10 releases to his credit. Stu's toasty warm vocals at times burning guitar work all grounded with some soulful didgeridoo creating an earthy experience in good humour embracing life.

Sugar Cane Rum Masterclass @ Sheraton
|
‘Raise a Glass to the Past’ at Daintree Bar is an exclusive Masterclass that pays homage to the cane cutters who arrived in the region over 100 years ago with a promise to work hard and, one day, own land. Today, many generations later, the families are successful farmers and business owners in Tropical North Queensland!
During the masterclass you will be tasting rum made by Mount Uncle Distillery. Mount Uncle has an unrivalled reputation in producing award winning products with an emphasis on using local and national Australian ingredients. The distillery is located on an 800-acre property, set amid a banana plantation and next to the local sugar mill.
Head Distiller and Director, Mark Watkins, will talk you through their process of using sugar cane to create the Mount Uncle FNQ Rum Co range. You will be tasting three different rums including the winner of the Gold Medal for World’s Best Pot Still Rum at the World Rum Awards (2021). Your rum tasting will be accompanied by creatively paired dishes curated by Sheraton’s talented Executive Chef, Belinda Tuckwell.
• Platinum Cane Spirit, paired with Kingfish ceviche with grapefruit and mint
• Iridium Dark Rum, complimented by Oysters with chili pineapple salsa
• Iridium X Aged Rum, accompanied by Truffle and Gruyere sourdough with fig jam
The masterclass will end on a sweet note with a refreshing cocktail and decadent Atherton chocolate dark rum balls.
Don't miss out on this unique and memorable experience. Reserve your spot today.
