Wine connoisseurs and enthusiasts were able to eat their hearts out during last weekend’s Cairns Show Wine Awards, the largest wine awards in North Queensland.

Showcasing more than 900 wines from all over Australia, the annual Awards have become a feature on the Australian wine industry calendar in June each year.

Running away with five medals was Lambert Estate Wines. Nestled in the rolling hills to the west of Angaston in the beautiful Barossa wine country, the Estate is blessed with some of the region’s finest soils and climatic conditions.

The family run Estate has been able to captivate the essence of what the Barossa offers the winemaker i.e. ideal climate, soils and landscape elements and the perfect terroir for producing outstanding quality wines.

The unique wines of the Estate left a big impression in the Far North as the winemakers hosted local wine tastings at the Bottle-O in Mossman and Port Douglas at the end of last year.

Tom Tyndall, local Lambert Estate Wines representative, proudly announced that ‘The Prologue’ (Sparkling Pinot Noir) attained a Gold Award and four Bronze Awards were given to ‘The Commitment’ (Medium Bodied Shiraz), ‘Little Rebel’ (Mourvedre, Medium Bodied Red), ‘Thoroughbred’ (Cabernet Sauvignon, Full Bodied Red) and their ‘’P.S. I Love You’ (Petite Sirah, Full Bodied Red).

Cairns Show Wine Awards

The Cairns Show Wine Awards were held at the Cairns Showgrounds and focuses attention on wine style, appropriate foods, and wine quality.
The Awards’ mission: to examine Wine Quality and Style in the context of a tropical location. The Awards are especially important in Far North Queensland with its strong tourism and hospitality industry.

The inaugural Cairns Show Wine Awards presented by the Cairns Agricultural, Pastoral and Mining Association took place in 1992 and has been held continually since that date.

Tom is also a local wine judge and is available to conduct a ‘Wine Tasting Party’ where a few friends get together for a fun event in an afternoon or evening. Everyone tastes the Lambert Estate Wines and can then through Tom place their orders. If you’re interested in hosting a party, please contact Tom by email at [email protected]
