It was game on at the new Mossman State School tennis courts last Saturday with the first squad match between Mossman and Port Douglas Juniors.

It was a rally of an afternoon as seven players from each side battled it out long and hard for the coveted Perpetual Trophy.

Conditions to play were ideal with the onslaught of rain not materializing.

Bev Gwynne, Secretary for the Mossman Squash and Tennis Club said the weather was kind with little rain and cool conditions.

“There were some hard-fought games including many tiebreakers. All players displayed fantastic sportsmanship and mettle as they entertained the spectators with their tennis strokes,” she said.

In the end, it was Port Douglas’ juniors who prevailed as the winners on the day.

Mossman players will be out for revenge when the two sides meet next in August.
