New student leaders were sworn in this week at Mossman State High School during a special induction ceremony, that also saw the class of 2021 welcomed and last year’s school dux crowned.

School Captains; Angus Brundson and Ellie Zillfleisch, along with Senior Leaders Diana Twist Claire Deuble, Alexis Ryan, Soul White, Mia Schreiber, and Harrison Davis all took the school leader oath.

Followed by the Junior School Captains Niamh Zillfleisch and Luka Govorko, and Junior Leaders Jasmine Allery, Nikita Farraway, Amy Hardy, Ava Jenkins and Imogen Lyne.

Belinda Guthrie, Head of Department Junior School, said the ceremony marks the commencement of the leader’s official duties which include running varus school activities and school council meetings.

“Our Junior Leaders organise activities for the Junior School, such as movie nights, fundraisers and assist at parent evenings like our upcoming Meet and Greet for our Year seven parents,” she said.

“The Senior Leaders chair whole school assemblies, help run athletics carnivals and run the school coffee shop.”

The 2020 junior and senior school dux was also announced for the first time during the ceremony.

The 2020 Junior Dux was awarded to Kalan Poole while the 2020 senior Dux went to Connor White.

Ninety-four year 12 students, up from last year’s 63, were also officially inducted to commence their final year of secondary schooling during the ceremony.

“We wish them all the best in their final year,” Ms Guthrie said.

She added a number of Year seven students were also celebrated for obtaining scholarships.

“Congratulations to our year seven Scholarship recipients; Reilly De Carlo (English), Silas Dobbin (Maths), Maximus Schmidt and Savanah Bender (Science), Jarve Seidenkranz (Music) and Lewis Marano (Sport).

“Well done and congratulations to all students who were involved in this very special ceremony,” she said.
