Each week I will be summing up the events, achievements and news from the schools that make our region great. If you have anything you would like covered, please contact me at [email protected].

The Douglas Shire has students that shine not only in classrooms but on the track, dance studios, football field and so many other areas and arenas.

Alexandra Bay State School

With the MS ReadAThon running through August and Book Week fast approaching also it was great to see students in books! Keep it up kids!

Djarragun College (Wangetti Beach)

The Lower Primary school this week celebrated 100 days of school for 2022 with their teachers Ms Nikki & Ms Trish - 100 days smarter!

Students had an amazing time on Mr Will’s excursion out to the Reef on Reef Magic. Certificate II Outdoor Recreation Students were treated to whale sightings TWICE - once slapping their tails and a full breach on the way home! All in our own backyard!

Miallo State School

This week the school welcomed Port Douglas, Julatten, Mossman, Daintree, Wonga, Alex Bay and St Augustine’s schools for the annual ball games competition. Photos to come this week!

The school’s 12yo Boys Futsal team also went to Cairns.

Mossman State High School

Year 11 took a Marine Science Field trip to the reef thanks to Wavelength. With Professors Dave and Paige attending a conference in Cairns next week they were on hand to answer questions and make the experience even bigger and better for the students! Students were given the opportunity to work with them to learn about their projects investigating the microbiology of out planted corals and the effects of exposure to trace metals.

Mossman State School

Year 5/6 Teacher Elise Bellero has spent the week with four of the school’s students (Charlie Brischetto, Tarique Burford-Pollard, Emily Harris and Thea Wilkie) at Daradgee Environmental Education Centre participating in a four-day Writers’ and Illustrators’ Camp. Such a great experience where the kids have planned, written, illustrated and published a 12-page children’s book. They have worked with and been supported by published authors Elizabeth Honey and Craig Smith in what has been such a fantastic opportunity.
