As the new year is approaching, 2023 is coming more into focus with a lot of things to look forward to.

From the hottest new food spots to new adventures and the perfect ways to relax, let our guide to the top four things to look forward to in the Douglas Shire help inspire you.

Explore new delicious foods

Happiness is… sunday roasts

Definitely something to look forward to in the new year; the popular roast Sundays at Daintree hotel pub are returning.

At the start of the new year locals can indulge themselves in a variety of roast meat - which will vary every week - with roast veggies and gravy on the side.

Start the new year healthy

Wanting to start the new year on a more healthy note to meet your new year resolutions?

Then this hot, new Asian vegan restaurant in Port Douglas, Bam Pow, is the perfect place for it.

You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy their delicious treats. With classics such as bao buns, banh mi's, gyoza and a killer cocktail menu, there are no excuses left to go and check-out this new spot.

Go on an adventure

Hike to the top of Mount Sorrow

A great challenge to put on your 2023 list. This six hour return hike is not for the fainthearted.

Don’t let the name put you off! The hike up Mount Sorrow is an absolute delight.

With this seven-kilometre return trail you climb up from the coastal lowlands of Cape Tribulation to a rainforest-clad ridge.

From the top, you’ll be treated to incredible views over the Daintree coastline and Snapper Island, making the reward well worth the effort.

Zipline through the rainforest

Up for some adrenaline in the new year?

Overcome your fears in the new year and soar like an eagle up to 15 metres above the ground.

Experience a bird’s eye view of the ancient Daintree rainforest through a fully guided two-hour zipline tour at Treetops Adventure.

Get zen in the New Year

There’s no better way to start the new year fresh than with a relaxing yoga class.

Intro course to yoga

Have you always wanted to try yoga but never knew where to start? This might be the perfect opportunity for you to try out something new in 2023.

Yoga teacher Bronte will be giving a four week “intro to Ashtanga Yoga” course at the Deep Yoga Studio in Port Douglas.

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and energising form of yoga which synchronises movement and breath to create a calm, steady mind.

Explore a new yoga style

More and more yoga studios are popping up in our beautiful shire, and Elemental Yoga Studio is one of them.

Located at the Sunbird Centre at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, this yoga studio offers a particular form of yoga.

Elemental yoga is a feminine flowing style which combines Yoga, Ballet and Qigong. It is a gentle nourishing style accessible to all levels of abilities. The perfect way to start 2023.

Develop a new skill

Get creative at DAB

Always wanted to learn how to work with glass, how to paint on silk or develop your pottery skills?

The Douglas Art Base in Mossman has a lot of new courses on offer starting in the new year.

Scientists agree that learning a new skill can help you become a more well-rounded and happier person. So what are you waiting for?

Learn to take amazing shots

With so many different beautiful landscapes our shire is incredibly photogenic.

How great would it be to learn how to capture all this beauty around you in a stunning photograph?

In the Get To Know Your Camera course by Tracey Jones you learn in six weeks everything you need to know about your camera.
